In addition to our regular season, we have developed the Children’s Operetta Workshop (COW), an educational outreach program that engages children in the performing arts to build confidence and expose them to genre of classical music.
Since 2007 over 250 children have completed the workshop, many of which were provided with financial assistance by Folks Operetta to cover the cost of their participation. The workshop gives children the unique opportunity to create their own performance from start to finish. Working alongside professional singers, dancers, and musicians, they are tutored in theart of stage craft, acting, singing and dancing, under the instruction of our workshop leaders.
For many children this will be the first time that they have ever performed with a live orchestra, as well as the first time that they have ever heard one. An added significance is the new educational and historical perspective that they gain by participating in the reconstruction of these forgotten works, many of them of Jewish origins.
The twelve week workshop culminates in three live performances on a professional stage. All shows are fully staged and costumed. A fifteen-piece orchestra accompanies the performers.
Past performances include Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Babes in Toyland ,The Adventures of Pinocchio, and Peter and Paul in the Land of Nod.
Folks Operetta does not discriminate based on age, race, or gender. Financial assistance can be requested by reaching out to us as firstname.lastname@example.org
A rare opportunity that children are sure to cherish for the rest of their lives.
